It had its beginning thousands of years ago in ancient China. Philosophers such as Confucius and Lao Tzu began to incorporate yin and yang principles into their teachings. It was around this time yin and yang became an important part of Taoism (sometimes called 'Daoism'). Yin and Yang refer to two polarities or opposites that one can.
